Hello againAfter such a non-starting summer season, we hope everyone is eager to go 'Indoors'. With the autumn upon us and the cold winter days nearly here, are we to be put off our sport just because it's cold? No - oh good. We have nearly fifty qualifying events, all over the country, for the 2002 National Final of the STRONGID - P Championship. The Year Book is incomplete due to more events being arranged after going to print. Keep your eyes open for the updates of events on our website, as well as in Carriage Driving, and Horse & Hound. |

4: Competitors. |
|
|
4.1 |
All competitors must be members of the Indoor Horse Driving Trials Club. This membership affords competitors personal liability insurance for the duration of the event but not personal accident insurance cover. It is strongly recommended that drivers have further insurance cover for all driving activities they undertake, the BHDTA offers insurance via membership. |
| 4.2 | JUNIORS: Competitors
under the age of 18 years as of the 1st of October of that winter's
season. Age qualifications for drivers and grooms as per BHDTA rules for affiliated club events. |
|
4.3 |
OPEN: Competitors, who have competed in open classes in BHDTA national horse driving trials competitions or that have qualified for a National Indoor Horse Driving Trials Final or any driver who has won two or more novice indoor classes during the two previous seasons indoor championship events. N.B. Juniors drivers qualifying for a National Indoor Final that have not had two novice wins will remain novice competitors for the following season. |
Any novice competitor who has qualified for the Indoor Finals or who has gained 32 qualifying points automatically goes into the OPEN class.
If you have not yet received a copy of the YEAR BOOK please e-mail us at [email protected] and one will be sent to you.
This year we are trying a new concept, we have abolished the dreaded Precision and Paces. Hurray I can hear you say, but beware, in its place we have Paces & Precision. As before there will be Two Judges, one judging paces and the other judging precision.
The Paces judge will not only judge the type of pace but also how the horse is going; the rhythm of the pace to be easy and regular; the hocks to be engaged; going forward in a good shape' to be on the correct bend and the transition between the paces.
The Precision judge will, whenever possible, be positioned above the arena and will mark the accuracy of the figure being driven; how straight is the halt; how many wiggles in crossing the arena; how round is a circle or perhaps it is egg shape.
The test for this winter season is a new test - Paces & Precision Test No 5
We were unfortunate to lose some events at the end of last season due to the Foot & Mouth outbreak, but what is the loss of a few events compared with what some people lost? This season one event has had to be abandoned for the same reason, that is the first event at Leeds on 28th October.
FMD is still about and we ask you all to comply with the disinfectant requirements. Clean off the underneath of all your transport with a recommended disinfectant; most feed merchants carry suitable, approved disinfectants that are not expensive. Remember your carriage wheels, horses' feet, and of course your own boots.
The first Adlington qualifier is on Sunday 18th November not Saturday 17th as stated in the schedule
The Indoor team will be very stretched this season and would appreciate any help offered. If you are available at any qualifying event, please ring the event secretary to express your interest. Thank You.
We are grateful to Pfizer Sandwich Ltd. manufacturers of STRONGID-P WORMERS for sponsoring the Championship again this season.
In line with the new rule change (see above), all drivers are invited to join or renew your membership to the Indoor Horse Driving Club.
By being a member you are entitled to discount on STRONGID-P wormers, paste or granules; also on ViSorbin, an electrolyte/vitamin supplement that will aid the recovery of your horse after the stress of traveling, competing or after illness. It also puts the tiger back in the tank for the older horse or pony.
Just ring Dick Carey on 01424 892051 or e-mail us on [email protected] for the special Club Members' prices. Orders will either be posted (small extra charge) or delivered to you at your local event.
All profits made from the sale of wormers are put back into the sport of Indoor Horse Driving Trials.
Please sponsor your friends competing in the 2001 STRONGID-P Indoor Horse Driving Trials Championship on 24 - 25th November. All sponsorship will go directly towards Saddle Up for Spinal Research.
